Using advanced technology, Lexus Melbourne Cup The Race of Dreams celebrates 160 years of Australia's greatest race, and asks the question – who is the ultimate Cup champion?
The intrigue of the Lexus Melbourne Cup has not changed since Archer first won in 1861. It has a fascinating history and its status is of international proportions. The fourlegged heroes are at the centre of this race, and each year a new one is etched into the history books, and into people’s hearts and minds.
While as racing fans there is nothing better than experiencing the Lexus Melbourne Cup trackside at Flemington, this year will be different. But as well as watching the live action on television, innovative technology will enable us to cheer on our favourite legends of the Cup in a computer-simulated virtual race.
Featuring a field selected by a panel of racing experts including VRC Ambassador Gai Waterhouse and legendary race caller Greg Miles, Lexus Melbourne Cup The Race of Dreams will be shown live on Network 10.
The spectacular race will be sure to feature iconic gallopers such as Carbine, Phar Lap, Might and Power, and Makybe Diva, with data algorithms including historical handicapping information about each horse used to determine the finishing position of the runners.
It is sure to re-ignite old debates about the ultimate Cup champion. Who would triumph in a race between the mighty Phar Lap and Carbine? Would Might And Power lead a race from start to finish over Rising Fast? Could Makybe Diva add a fourth Lexus Melbourne Cup to her trophy case in a field crowded with superstars, fifteen years after her last crown?
Punters will not be able to place a bet on the 2020 Lexus Melbourne Cup The Race of Dreams but we urge you to embrace the concept at home. Run a Cup Day sweep with your family or friends for the real and the virtual race. Imagine the bragging rights if you manage to pick the winner in both!
So although we may be apart, our shared love of racing and the Lexus Melbourne Cup keeps us together. Stay in touch by following Flemington and the VRC on social media, and tag @FlemingtonVRC to keep the community spirit alive.
