Symon Wilde’s progressive mare Tralee Rose broke through to win her first race in town with an impressive victory in the TCL TV Stakes (1700m) at Flemington.
The lightly-raced four-year-old continues her successful preparation having won dominantly first-up by 4.5 lengths at Warrnambool. The victory also provided top jockey Kerrin McEvoy with his third winning ride during Cup week this year, and his 49th in total.
Wilde was thrilled to see the promising stayer win during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
“It’ll give the team at home a boost,” Wilde said post-race. “I think she’s got a really bright future. I think the further she goes the better she’s going to get. She was a really late maturing horse, so she’s got a lot to look forward to, I think. For her to do that over 1700 metres today was fantastic.”
“She got a really good ride from Kerrin, he made good use of that gate (2). She’s green still but I’m really excited to see where she can land.”
Tralee Rose jumped as a $4.20 chance with TAB, while the race-favourite November Dreaming ($2.90 with TAB) failed to finish in the first four.
