Now a dual G1 winning mare, Shout The Bar ($31 TAB) shot straight back into form in the TAB Empire Rose Stakes to cling on to win by the barest of margins over dominant Thousand Guineas winner, Odeum ($4 TAB).
The victory provided champion jockey Damien Oliver and trainer Gai Waterhouse with their second success in the G1 event since 1999, and a first for her co-trainer Adrian Bott.
While not showing a great deal this preparation, the tough four-year-old mare had shown her quality in G1 contests as a three-year-old.
Co-trainer Adrian Bott said it was terrific to get her back to her best, with the blinkers playing a key role.
““Her form looked pretty plain on paper coming into today. We could make some genuine excuses all the way through. Good to see her bounce back today.
She’s been a fantastic mare for us so far in her first campaign. Incredibly tough the way she kept fighting there. She looked beaten on a number of occasions. I love the way she just picked herself.”
Jockey Damien Oliver said it was great to land another G1, and combine once again with Waterhouse and Bott.
“It’s been a while. Fiorente might have been the last one, I think.”
“I’ve got to give a lot of credit to Adrian. He suggested to put the blinkers on and I really think they made the difference. They got past her easily in the straight and she was just holding her ground.
“It felt I needed to do something different, so I switched the whip to the left and she really responded and she came again and was too strong for them.”
