Phillip Stokes’ winning machine, Ancestry, has added another string to his bow with a dominant victory down the Flemington straight.
Joining the likes of Redzel (2016), Lankan Rupee (2013) and Temple of Boom (2010) to have won the Listed G.H. Mumm Century Stakes, Ancestry rolled along at his own leisure to land an impressive all-the-way victory in the 1000m contest.
Trainer Phillip Stokes was thrilled to see his talented sprinter handle the straight track.
“He just ticked over another (task). The straight is not a problem and geez he’s a fast horse and he’s going great,” Stokes said. “Throughout the run I said [to jockey Michael Poy] ‘don’t fight the horse, just go with him’ and he did that. He’s rating the horse beautifully and he’s going good.”
Michael Poy said he was delighted to be given the opportunity during Cup week.
“This horse has now shown he’s up to Group class. Big thanks to Wylie Dalziel and all the owners, they’ve stuck by me all (through) this preparation in these types of races. I can’t repay them.”
Ancestry started as the $3.20 favourite with TAB.
